Dunshea’s Deli is a cozy, neighborhood cafe tucked just off the main strip in Khandallah, a leafy suburb of Wellington. Its location near Khandallah Park and the Skyline trailhead makes it a natural stop for locals out for a morning walk or weekend hike looking to refuel with solid breakfast fare and quality coffee. The space has a relaxed, casual vibe that feels welcoming whether you’re popping in for a quick takeaway coffee or settling down at one of the outdoor tables on a sunny day.

The focus here is on well-made coffee and hearty, straightforward cafe dishes that cater to a morning or lunch crowd who appreciate no fuss, good ingredients, and friendly service. Dunshea’s is known for dishes like their scone, pulled pork on toast topped with a poached egg, and poached eggs served with mushrooms and black pudding—meals that offer a bit of comfort with interesting flavor combinations. These menu items highlight a willingness to go beyond your average cafe fare without complicating the experience.

Locals tend to be repeat visitors, reflected in the easy rapport between the staff and their regulars. The team is quick and approachable, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a well-loved neighbor’s kitchen than a busy commercial spot. The coffee, in particular, draws attention for its smooth and creamy profile, satisfying a range of tastes from classic cappuccinos to more specialty options like almond milk lattes and mochas.

Because of its outdoor seating area, Dunshea’s suits days with clear weather when you can enjoy your coffee and food in the fresh air watching the neighborhood life go by. It’s a spot that works well for early breakfasts before heading into town or a relaxed weekend brunch. Whether you’re coming for a quick caffeine fix, a casual meet-up, or a light lunch to recharge, Dunshea’s delivers a grounded, unpretentious experience that fits naturally into the rhythms of Khandallah life.

Great little cafe, it seems most people are regulars and the staff are so friendly. Had a delicious breakfast with Black pudding and go regularly for take away coffee.

This is a lovely family deli- cafe just around the corner from Khandallah Park and the Skyline trailhead. Craig and the team are super friendly, fast and serve great coffee and cakes and in addition to the great savoury food in the counter- also have a great breakfast/ lunch menu too. One of my favourite venues in Wellington.

Wow, hands down the best coffee we've had in Wellington. Just so smooth, melt in your mouth type deliciousness I had a mocha and partner had A Vanilla Latte with Almond milk (I usually can't handle her usual drink preference but I definitely enjoyed this one ) food was good too. Service was really good, friendly staff. Will definitely be back ! (Partner and I we around 1pm Monday 30/06/25)

Top notch food. Damn nice coffee. Friendly and efficient staff. No complaintd here Pictured is pulled pork on toast. This dish comes with a poached egg but moi does not like dem things, hence the vacancy at the bottom of the plate . I now have to figure out how to attach the image to one's review, hmm.

A Khandallah favorite, Dunshea’s Deli offers a more creative menu than the usual cafe’s breakfast fare. Try the Sammie with Black Pudding or the amazing cheese jalapeño scones. And the coffee is top notch. Parking can be a challenge but I’ve always found one in the end.

Great food, especially the gourmet pies and deserts. We cannot drive past without popping in to get coffee and food.
